A JOURNEY TO THE LAND OF MIGRATORY BIRDS
Last
Sunday i.e on 02.02.2014 myself with my friends went for an adventure cum
photography tour to the west basin of the famous Brahmaputra river, Dhubri,
Assam. We started up our journey by boat at 7.30 am in the morning. Due to
heavy foggy weather our boat was moving slowly as nothing was visible except
the milky white colour. It was a very risky journey as nothing can be seen. But
our boatman was so much expertise in his driving that we felt comfortable after
sometime. Also he can see far and made
it confirm the presence of any birds or some grasses only. Really, he had a
birdeye view. Our mind was upset as
without sunlight photography is in vain. The mighty sun atlast threw his
sunlight at around 11.00 am!! As soon as the sun started shining on the sky..we
shouted with joy yes yes yes J….more
than thousand migratory birds we had observed. Among them Ruddy shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea),Northern pintail (Anas acuta), Great crested grebe (Podiceps cristatus), Grey
heron (Ardea cinerea),Little ring plover (Charadrius
dubius),Northern shoveler (Anas clypeata),Common sandpiper(Actitis
hypoleucos), Common snipe(Gallinago gallinago),Wood sandpiper (Tringa
glareola), Cotton Pygmy Goose or Cotton Teal(Nettapus coromandelianus),Gadwal(Anas strepera),Red
crested Pochard (Netta
rufina), Tufted duck (Aythya fuligula), Great egret (Ardea alba),
Great Cormorant(Phalacrocorax
carbo), Mallard(Anas platyrhynchos), and few other common species etc etc. From the local boatmen we
have come to know that some hunters came frequently to kill these birds, so the
no. has been decreasing day by day. It’s a matter of great concern to save these
birds as well as the biodiversity. Also we have heard sounds of firing at some
places. But couldn’t find those bustards. It is really very pathetic for our
guest birds. As soon as the department or we don’t protect these birds from
hunting, soon the valley will become a
dead island. The chirping and the flying sounds of the birds are still banging
on my ears. So serine, so peaceful!! I must thankful to my friend Mr.Faiz
Rahman who gave me opportunity to experience such a pleasant moment. Thank you
Faiz.
